Instead, consider keywords that will set your business apart, in ways that potential customers will search for. If your donut shop makes the best apple fritters in Winnetka, Illinois, you’re much more likely to rank quickly for “apple fritter Winnetka Illinois” than “donut shop”.

Be Productive

Maybe you think that creating a new website is all you need to climb the Google charts. And having an attractive, easy-to-use site is a large part of the puzzle, since your online customers need a place to find you, after all.

But if you’re going to attract a search engine’s attention, you’ll need to consistently update your site with new content – preferably at least once or twice a week. This lets the search engine “bots” know that your site is active, and builds your online reputation and authority over time.

Established and verified websites generally rank higher than new ones, and since search engines have a lot of data to sift through, it takes time for them to realize that you deserve a spot at the top of their rankings.
